Booking Checklist
Before creating a reglazing job, confirm:✓ Customer name✓ Property address✓ Email address
✓ Phone number
Purpose: The information gathered during the initial phone call to determine the following:1. The correct glass type.2. Whether the job can be quoted immediately or requires a site measure.3. The amount of labour required.4. Any access or safety issues.5. Whether the technician can complete the job in one visit.
Always work through the following checklist before booking a reglaze.
1. Ask what is broken?Door glassDoor sidelightWindowRanch slider
Why we ask: Different types of joinery have different glazing methods and safety requirements. Knowing what is broken helps us determine the likely glass type, replacement process and the time required.
1A. If it is a window, ask if it is an opening or fixed panel?Opening windowFixed window
Why we ask: Opening windows often require the sash to be removed and worked on separately. Fixed windows are usually reglazed in place. This affects labour time and access requirements.
1B. If it is a door, is it next to a door or part of a ranch slider unit?
Why we ask: Glass in and around doors is generally considered a high-impact area and often requires safety glass. This question helps us determine compliance requirements and the correct replacement glass.
1C. If it is a ranch slider, ask which panel is broken?Top or bottom panel
Why we ask: The position of the glass helps identify the likely glazing method and safety requirements. Lower panels are more likely to require safety glass due to the risk of human impact.
1D. If it is a ranch slider, is the panel fixed or opening?
Why we ask: Opening panels may need to be removed from the track and reglazed in the workshop or on site. Fixed panels are usually treated differently and can affect labour time and handling requirements.
2. How far is it from the floor to the bottom of the glass?Ask, is the bottom edge of the glass below or above 800mm from Finished Floor Level (FFL)?
Important: Measure to the glass itself, not the frame.
Why we ask: Building regulations require safety glass in many locations where the glass is within 800mm of the floor. This is one of the most important questions when determining whether float, laminated, or toughened safety glass is required.
3. Which room is the glass in?Bedroom / Kitchen / Bathroom / Lounge / Garage / Other
Why we ask: Certain rooms have additional safety glazing requirements. Bathrooms, for example, commonly require safety glass due to the increased risk of slips and falls. Room location also helps determine likely glass specifications.
4. Is the glass single or double glazed?Single-glazed glass can often be cut and replaced quickly and in one site visit.
Double-glazed units (DGUs) must be accurately measured, manufactured to order, and can take significantly longer to replace. Incorrect information here can result in unnecessary site visits and delays.
Tip: If the customer is unsure, ask whether there is a spacer bar visible between two panes of glass.
5. Is the joinery aluminium or timber?Different joinery systems require different glazing methods, tools, and materials. Knowing the joinery type helps us prepare correctly and estimate labour time.
6. What is the approximate size? (Just the size of the glass they can see will be fine)
Size affects the following:The glass cost.Whether safety glass is required.Number of technicians required.Whether the job can be completed from stock glass.Always get the best estimate possible.
7. What type of glass is it?Clear / Tinted / Obscured / Frosted
Why we ask: The replacement glass must match the existing glass as closely as possible. Ordering the wrong glass type can result in delays, additional costs, and unhappy customers.
8. What does the broken glass look like?Sharp shards or large pieces? - Usually Float Glass.Cracked but still holding together? - Usually Laminated Glass (although float glass can also crack).Small cubes, crumbs, or a pile of tiny pieces? - Usually Toughened Safety Glass.
Why we ask: The break pattern is often the quickest way to identify the existing glass type.
This helps determine:Whether a site measure is required.Whether the glass can be cut on site.Whether a custom toughened panel must be ordered.
Rule of thumb: If it breaks into tiny cubes, it is usually toughened and must be site measured and ordered.
9. What glass type is required?Based on the information gathered above in question 8, determine whether the replacement should be:
Float (stock sheet)Laminated safety glassToughened safety glassDouble-glazed unit
This information is required before quoting or scheduling.
10. What is access like? Can the window be reached from outside? Are there gardens, shrubs, or obstacles? Is a ladder access required? Is scaffolding required? Are there any access restrictions?
Why we ask: Most reglazing is completed from the exterior of the building. Access issues affect:Labour time.Equipment requirements.Whether additional staff are required.
A beautiful rose garden directly below a window can add significant time to a job.
11. Is the property easy to find?Is the house number clearly visible? Is the letterbox numbered? Are there any landmarks or special instructions?
Why we ask: Technicians need to locate the property quickly and efficiently. Clear directions reduce delays and improve customer service.
Always note any useful information such as:Shared driveways.Rear units.Rural properties.Gated access.Hidden house numbers.Final Check Before Booking
